Stacker 2 Xtra Energy Shot – Review

Hello everyone,

This week I will be reviewing the Stacker 2 Xtra energy shot. Read more for the full details.

Its a curious bottle, this Stacker 2 Xtra. And its obvious they are trying a marketing tactic with the name Xtra. When I saw it in my local grocery store for only 1 dollar compared to the more pricey 5 hour energy and other shots. I figured, why not. Its caffeine and should at least give a little pick me up.

So, I completed my purchase and took my little treasure to my car where I proceeded to crack the seal and take a long swig. Meh, was my first thought. I’ve had all sorts of energy drinks and shots some taste horrible others surprisingly good. This was on the lower scale but differently not bad tasting. I guess, I’d describe it as one of those really poorly flavored non carbonated waters. But hey, it was just one dollar.

As I proceeded to drive back to home. I felt a small boost of energy but no real flush in my face. The effects lasted at most one hour. So it definitely wasn’t any real bang for the buck. But it did deliver something and wasn’t terrible tasting overall. Later in the week I went back and picked up one of each flavor just to see if there was any noticeable difference. As for me some flavors seem to make a lot of difference in how much of a boost they give me. Especially from the get go. Below is my complete summary and score. Including the full ingredients listing and all relevant information.

Stacker 2 Xtra Energy Shot

Stacker 2 Energy Shots Full Box

Flavors: Grape, Orange, Berry and Citrus.

Taste: 4/10

Grape – I could barely tell it was grape. Aside from the purple wrapper.

Orange – Well it didn’t taste like grape.

Berry – Kinda reminded me of a really weak 5 hour energy Berry flavor.

Citrus – A very very weak squirt. I enjoyed this one the most out of them all. I think it may be discontinued though its no longer on their official website.

Energy: 3/10

I felt a small boost after taking it. But the effects were minimal and only lasted one hour at best.

Packaging/Marketing: 5/10

Never heard of it until I saw it at the checkout isle. The Xtra name is kinda amusing I guess they felt they needed to try something more edgy to get those sales numbers up. As for the bottle and wrapping. Pretty standard for a energy shot. They are slightly larger than a 5 hour or other shots. But nothing fancy here.

Price: 7/10

Price is where the Xtra Energy Shot shines. Its one of the cheaper energy shots I’ve seen. So while its not exactly great if your looking for a quick jolt and a cheap one. You could do worse.

Overall: 5 out of 10

Recommendation: No, I don’t plan on being a regular user of Stacker 2 Xtra Energy Shots.

Ingredient Information

Okay okay, so whats worth knowing in here? Well, first off we don’t know how many milligrams of Caffeine are actually in the shot. But the claim of a normal cup of coffee leads to me believe around 200 milligrams. Which is really a pittance and some energy drinks and shots cram more than 1 gram of caffeine in them.

N-Acetyle L-Tyrosine or NALT for short. Is a accelerated derivative of the essential amnio acid L-Tyrosine. It is more rapidly absorbed and bioavailable than L-tyrosine alone and less prone for you to flush it out by urination. It is one of the 20 nonessential amino acids used by cells to synthesize proteins. it used by the body to make chemical messengers that are involved in conditions involving the brain and as such helps with mental alertness in general.

You also have the standard assortment of B-Vitamins like Niacin and Folic Acid thrown in. As for sweeteners it uses the somewhat more healthy sucralose compared to Aspartame. And as with preservatives those are just no good in general.
